Dear Families, In anticipation of Halloween next week, students are feeling very excited and enthusiastic!  I'm already hearing about the unique costumes students will be wearing!  If you would like to send me a picture of your child in his or her costume, please do so via my e-mail: pgill@scdsb.on.ca and I can include it in next week's post! Character Recognition & Spirit Assembly: Today at our assembly, we celebrated this month’s character trait:  Cooperation.  Congratulations to Parker and Charlotte for consistently demonstrating this trait in your thoughts, words, and actions! You two are excellent models for  'WORKING TOGETHER TO GET THE JOB DONE!'   Thank you for setting a positive example in and out of the classroom!  Well done you two!! Math: This week in math, I introduced the 4 Block Problem Solving Method as way to help students to answer word problems effectively.  I will be providing more problem-based questions for them to answer as this r

Dear Families, First off, I would like to say thank you to all the students and their parents for taking the time to visit our Classroom Blog each week!  It is an opportunity to listen, learn, see, and celebrate what's happening in our  Learning Community !  I'm encouraging you to continue to do so as your child is working extremely hard to improve his or her achievement academically, socially and behaviourally to put in their personal best to help them  REACH FOR THE TOP!   Language: As shared in last week's post, students worked on comparing and contrasting the similarities and differences of a child's experience at Nottawa vs. A Residential School.  We did a whole class discussion with this and wrote down some ideas on a sticky note to contribute to our large Venn Diagram (using hoola hoops).  After this lesson, students went to their desks and completed their very own Venn Diagram.  Ask your child, what some of his or her ideas (statements) were :)  These will

Dear Families, Due to it being a "shortened" school week because of Thanksgiving Monday, the students and I were eager to get back to our learning and even complete work that we may have missed from the holiday.  I truly have a motivated group of children in my class which makes me feel so happy!! Writing: This week's writing topic was all about Thanksgiving (see google slide below). I did a mini-lesson about Recounts which is " Retelling an Event in Sequence " (see picture below of the anchor chart we have posted in our classroom).  Students were encouraged to provide as much detail as possible about their experience over the weekend and to use sequence words such as  first, then, next, after that,  and  finally.  I also had them work in pairs to give each other feedback to add to their work!  We have so many hard working writers here!! In your child's agenda you will have noticed I have sent home his or her writing not

Dear Families, Have a wonderful  Thanksgiving  long weekend with your loved ones!  In class, I look forward to hearing about your family's  'Thankful Stone'  sharing experience.  Students were extremely excited to bring home their  'Thankful Bags'  and share the contents inside with you!  I know many of you will cherish your child’s  Thankful Letter .  I hope you enjoy reading it as much as your child enjoyed writing it this week.  As I conferenced with students to offer feedback, I was deeply touched by their thoughts, words, and actions in their heartfelt message to you!  Check us out below as we did a Thankful Stone sharing as a class family about all the things we're grateful for in our life! Parker: . This week we spent a lot of time thinking and learning about the word and importance of GRATITUDE.  Ask your child what it means :) Thank you Parker for sharing your learning about gratitude at home with your Mom and Dad.  Today, I received
