Dear Families,

It was our first snow day of the school year.  I hope everyone is safe on the roads and has a wonderful weekend!  Enjoy playing out in the snow with your loved ones!  It looks like it's going to be a beautiful weekend for outdoor play!

World Ski Cross Riglet Program:
The Ski Cross World Cup is coming back to Blue Mountain on January 23 - 26th 2019!  This year, Ski Cross and Blue Mountain would like to bring kids in grade 2 and 3 to Blue Mountain to participate in the Burton Riglet Program and meet some of this year's Ski Cross World Cup Athletes!  The Burton Riglet Program is a fun and engaging program for kids that allows them to try snowboarding in a gymnasium.

Good news!  There is NO COST for our students.  Simply, fill out, sign, and return the permission form by December 14th.  We're really looking forward to this neat experience coming our way!

Supporting Barbara Weider House:
On Wednesday, we had the pleasure of having a volunteer come into our class to speak to my students about homeless youth in our community.  Some of you may know, we have the Barbara Weider House which offers a place of safety and hope for homeless youth.  Its services address the needs of youth in crisis and provides the support to help them master the tasks of adolescence as well as focus on their education and employment opportunities.

To help support this foundation, the grade 3 classes will have the opportunity to participate in a program called painting "Bowls for Beds" on January 16, 2019 in our school library.  We here at Nottawa take great pride in thinking about the feelings of others!

Empathy Assembly:

Our class will be leading this month's character trait assembly!  It will take place on Thursday December 20th at 9:15 AM.  We have been working hard in class to practice and rehearse so we are ready for our performance!

I sent home the lyrics to the songs yesterday, please ask your child to practice singing the words as it is important for them to be comfortable with these :)

Raz-Kids:
All students now have an updated Raz-Kids reading account.  Thank you for your patience in this.  I sent home the parent letter with students yesterday.  It is encouraged that your child access their account as much as possible.  There will also be opportunities to do so in class as well.  Happy reading boys and girls!

Mrs. Shaw & Mrs. Garvan:
The holiday season  is a time for giving and sharing.  We were so touched by the acts of kindness displayed by Mrs. Shaw's and Mrs. Garvan's grade 5 and 6 students who gave us all a holiday pencil with a joke attached to it.  We had quite the chuckle with these!  Thank you for being so thoughtful and thinking about our feelings :)  We appreciate it!

Holiday Concert Reminder:
Just a friendly reminder that our primary holiday concert will take place on Wednesday December 12th!  The morning show will be at 11:30 AM and the evening performance will be at 6:30 PM.  My students are asked to meet in the library for 6:15 PM.  Looking forward to seeing this event!
