Dear Families,

This week, we had 2 snow days, wowza!  I have had a few parents ask me this so I would like to clarify on here too.  Please know that if we experience bus cancellations on a particular field trip day, oral presentations, in class visitor, or any other special event (e.g., healthy eating session), please note it will be postponed.  Notice of rescheduling will be given through the agenda the next day and/or the school website.

If you haven't already done so, it is highly encouraged that you subscribe to our school website to receive up to date information as it comes in from Mrs. Beattie in the office.  Please visit www.not.scdsb.on.ca and the instructions to subscribe are in the newsletter provided.  Thank you :)

Procedure Presentations:
I’m sure many students came home sharing with you all about the tasty treats they consumed from watching and listening to their peers' procedural writing presentations!  Yummy :)

During each presentation, students worked in partners to provide their peers with specific feedback to help celebrate their stars (strengths) and arrows (next steps).  Many took great pride in this task and gave such meaningful comments to help improve and celebrate student achievement!  Please ask your child what some of his or her feedback was to others!

I would like to thank all my families who took the time and energy to work with their child on this project when I know you have so much going on in your work weeks, and to provide food samples for our whole class.  It meant a lot to us and when we evaluated the recipes, I heard a lot of 10 out of 10 or 5 stars!  Delicious!!

I am proud of my students who took great care in this assignment as it has helped them develop a greater understanding of writing a procedure and making it into a google slides presentation for added effect.  What a wonderful program to learn about at a young age!  The kids taught me a lot too about this and all the cool features that we can use!  Enjoy the sweet pics!

Snowboarding Program:
We really enjoyed our field trip on Tuesday to Blue Mountain!  It was very well organized, engaging, and FUN for ALL.  Students participated in the Little Riders Program hosted by The Canadian Ski Council with Audi Fis Ski Cross.  Over 800 students participated that day!  Each child was given a certificate of achievement and an incentive to try out snowboarding on the ski hill at Blue.

Can you tell we had a blast!?  Check out all the smiles :-) Can you spot me too?  I just had to join in on the fun as well!  Looooove being active and trying new things ;)

Social Studies Project:
A note came home yesterday from Mrs. O regarding creating a farmstead.  Please review this with your child.  If you wish to bring in other small items from home such as pieces of fabric, small plastic animals and/or people, pine cones, sticks, etc ... please feel free!  Some students already have which is great, but there's still time to do this.  Thank you.  Students will be working hard on their pizza box projects on Monday during periods 5 and 6 with Mrs. O :)

Character Recogition Assembly:
Just friendly reminder that our next character recognition assembly will be taking place on Thurs. Jan. 31st during period 5 beginning at 1:40 - 2:30 p.m.  All families are welcome to attend!  It'll be a fun one as it's a spirit day as well.  Students are asked to dress in their favourite Sport's Jersey!!  As many know, I'm a huge sports fan so I can't wait to wear mine and see what my students wear as well!  I'll be sure to get a class picture of us with our sporty attire :)

Jeremy & Emma:
Thank you Jeremy and Emma for taking initiative and sharing your heartfelt google slides about the Home Horizon program.  I am so moved by your willingness to take in school learning and then independently extending your thinking to build upon your knowledge and leadership skills to share with your peers and me :) Amazing!!!

Mindfulness:
In life, we will not agree with everyone, and that's OK!  In fact, it's better than ok, it's what makes our world so bright, innovative, and interesting!  But, what I've shared with my students especially in collaborative situations, we must always be considerate of others thoughts, feelings, and opinions.  If you don't agree with someone, please remember to RESPECTFULLY DISAGREE.  We all have a voice, it needs to be heard.

Growth Mindset:

"If you want to help change the world, then be the FUEL to help change it!- Addy

Namaste,
Ms. Gill
